Accessibility statement

This website is run by The Latymer School and this statement applies to www.latymer.co.uk, January 2025.

We aim to make our school an inclusive and safe environment for all young people regardless of their background and identity. In line with this ethos, we also want as many people as possible to be able to use our website. Overall you should be able to:

  • Use the high visibility version to change colours and contrast levels.
  • Zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off your computer screen.
  • Navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software.
  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader.

We have also used plain English as much as possible throughout our content.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Accessibility features
  • Responsive design: our website provider, Juniper, built our website to work on various devices and screen sizes, including desktop computers, tablets, and smartphones.
  • Keyboard navigation: the website should be navigable via your keyboard but please notify us if you encounter any issue.
  • Text readability: we aim to use clear and legible fonts, along with sufficient colour contrast to enhance readability.
  • Alternative text: we aim to provide descriptive alternative text for images to assist users with visual impairments. On occasions (e.g. A level results and university destinations), we use graphs to illustrate our results – those can be provided as large tables on request.
  • Video captions: our videos are either hosted on YouTube (that provides a subtitle feature) or have transcripts available below the video.
  • Videos do not contain anything that flashes more than three times in any one second period.
  • Links: we endeavour to include appropriate use of links and ensure that those links are descriptive enough but please notify us if you encounter any issue.
  • Tables: we endeavour to ensure that tables have the appropriate headings set. If any tables do not have defined headings (and are therefore difficult to access for someone with a screen reader or using keyboard navigation), we will rectify this if notified.
  • Section headings are used to organise the content. If any page does not contain user-friendly headings, we will rectify this if notified.
  • Forms linked from the website, such as admission forms, are created using Microsoft Forms and we endeavour to make those accessible.
Non-compliant content

We know that some parts of this website are not fully accessible yet, when taking into account the WCAG 2.2 AA success criterion:

  • Zooming in on mobiles: we are working with our website provider to sort out the issues occurring on some pages of the website when viewed on smartphones.
  • Older PDF documents may not be fully accessible to screen reader software. Our Policies documents will be checked and updated as accessible by the end of February 2025.
  • The embedded Google Maps on the Contact Us page is not accessible within the site.
  • Images in the top banner of our webpages are not currently holding alternative texts. We are working with our website provider to get this addressed. Those pictures are purely illustrative (e.g. pictures of our buildings, our students in classrooms) and do not contain information.
  • Virtual tour: whilst we endeavour to ensure that our videos are available with captions, our Virtual Tour currently doesn’t offer that option on some elements. This is something we are working at correctly in the near future.
  • Brand colours: Whilst we endeavour to use contrasting enough colours, we are aware of a few items in our menu bar needing stronger contrast. We aim to get this changed by the end of February 2025. If other text do not meet the contrast ratio, we will rectify this if notified.
  • Screen reader compatibility: whilst our website has been built to include functionality that should work with screen readers, we may need to make some improvements by working with our website provider.

Going forward, we will aim to address the issues above, as well continue to work to improve the accessibility of our website. We will therefore run annual accessibility audits and incorporate feedback from users to enhance accessibility.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations - School exemption

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to ‘the exemptions’ listed here:

  • Primary and secondary schools or nurseries are partially exempt from the accessibility regulations - except for the content people need in order to use their services, for example a form that lets you outline school meal preferences.
Third-party content

While we aim to ensure that our content is accessible, we cannot guarantee that third-party materials or links will fully meet accessibility standards.

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’). If you're not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).
